We held our first meeting last night in what has become our meeting venue of choice, Thirteen High Street. It’s helpful that Maxene, the owner of the wonderful venue, is on our committee and helps book in all of our fabulous entertainment.
So we have started our planning for 2018 and we are going to make a few more tweaks to the Festival for this year but it’s all good and all part of the continual evolution of our event.
For many years the Victorian Festival and Christmas Lights were all planned by the same committee. This is set to change this year. We already had our amazing fundraising co-ordinator, David Brewin, who would oversee all the fundraising activities for the lights and now he will head the new Christmas Lights Committee. Last year we had to raise more money than ever for the Lights and sadly many of the donations were down – especially the business collections. David is now bringing together a committee to help raise the extra money that is required to keep the lights shining in Garstang. I’m sure you’ll agree, Garstang without lights would be a disaster!
With the Lights being organised by a separate committee it means the Victorian Festival team can concentrate on one thing and that’s making the event even bigger and better than before.
The Festival in 2017 was a huge success. Our biggest crowd yet! Our new zones worked brilliantly and helped spread the mass of people throughout the town. Our new Weind Bar, Made in Lancashire Mini Market and other zones were a huge success so expect more of the same again this year.
We are changing the way trade stalls are booked in. Details of the new booking process will be made available in April.
So that’s it for now! We’ll keep you up to date with progress over the coming months!
